Post FOWLR to reef tank that had CP

I have a FOWLR tank with large powder blue, large, elegant foxface, Sailfin, Kole Tang, blennies, Swallowtail angelfish. It has 36" LifeReef Skimmer, 80 watt emporor UV at 250 gph, and has 250 gallon tank and 100 gallon sump.

It is up and running well with no issues in long time.

I am asking if a single Chloroquinine treatment in tank 6 months ago is prohibitive to running a reef tank. 0.03 phosphates and 3 Nitrates due to algae scrubber.

I am going to try with simple birdsnest frag anyway but looking for thoughts from others on this process of FOWLR to reef that saw one dose of CP at 15 mg/l. I can do few 50% water changes if needed.

I treated my display tank with CP once and after a major water change, running carbon, and changing sand, added coral with no problems. Unfortunately you can't test CP but it seems that with UV, carbon, and skimming can easily take it out.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I'll go down that path of short term ROX after (2) 50% water changes. The first step of oxidation of CP is well known. If it gets metabolized is not clear to me. I am resisting a sand bed change.

Not bad idea if it works as this forum is filled with failed QT attempts.

My quarantine tank uses 15 mg/l withnew fish still and algae will regrow under a 35 watt CF bulb after 3-4 weeks making me think the organics dissipate or extremely light sensitive.

Running any type of algae scrubber is a good choice after CP treatments if idea is to get rid of remaining phosphates and organics. Amount of water solubility CP has makes me think it stays mostly in water instead of binding.

Not sure anyone is following this thread but after using Chloroquinine Phosphate and locating a reputable source, here is the forum banter "phrases" that get kicked around.

- It will kill Ich and Velvet in all stages of life. (Possibly white papers exist for velvet)
- QT animals from anywhere from 21 days to 72 days, then the vagueries of exotic ich sub species begins. (More than likely less than fully anal qt procedures reintroduced parasites back to tank, the way hobbyists play with tanks)
- Porous rock habitats can never eliminate parasites entirely. ( I use extremely flow but not basis for yeah or nah on this one)
- May have effect on flukes
