Hey Eshook it's just my opinion but ...
It's pressed furniture wood ... meaning its not really wood because its particle board like on the inside; not to mention its quite skinny wood. Also the way it's put together is most likely weak screws e.g. one can already see the gaps in between the pieces; if water gets in the particle wood will rot or expand. I suggest buffing that thing up with some longer wood screws to squeeze the pieces together tighter and perhaps (2) 1x2's under it for added weight support. Only 2 pieces of wood actually touch the floor not really spreading out weight well and risky if bumped laterally.
A 29 gallon can be quite heavy! I have done the math for my 29 Gal. tank. If I can remember correctly from physics every cubic foot of pure water, meaning 1.00 on your hydrometer, weighs about 62.5 lbs and sea water at 1.03 weighs 64 lbs. So a 29 gallon can hold exactly 3.45 cubic ft. of water (L 2.3ft X W 1 ft. X H 1.5 ft. = 3.45) multiplied by sea water 64 lbs. comes out to be 220 lbs. Now comes a lil' bit of judgement ... how safe would you feel if you were on that thing holding a 50 lb. weight ?! (I'm guessing you're an avg. guy at like 170 lbs.) Also to fill up a 29 gallon with a 3 - 3.5 inch deep denitrifying sand bed takes about 50 lbs. of sand. and perhaps another 30-50 lbs. of Live Rock. Totalling around 300 lbs weight just for the 29 gallon.
Crap I just remembered 1 Gallon of water weighs 8.3 lbs ... so 29 Gal. X 8.3lbs = 241. lbs ... a bit more than my estimated 220 lbs ...
Well anyway I hope this helps I don't want to scare you away from the stand you have now ... just to open your eyes at water weight and to help keep your precious cargo in the tank and not broken everywhere.

hrmmm... Maybe I should consider getting another stand? It would be a shame because I picked this stand for its simplicity. The assembly (to me) doesn't seem *too* bad. They use bolts, not sure of the size, for both sides and top. I am planning on adding some additional support to the bottom of both shelfs, probably in the form of 1x2's or 2x2's. I don't think I can do anything for the thin sides.
I think some of gaps have been caused by me moving it around so much, but obviously it shouldn't produce gaps when moved.

i have had that same stand under my 20 gallon for a year come march, with no problems. i was worried at first but it seems to be ok. a little wobbly but it hasnt fallen apart. when i upgrade to my 29 in may i am definately getting a different stand, preferably one with doors.
i made a door out of fabric, so its not really a door more like a curtain but whatever

gfk, I think I would definately put a 20G on this stand but you guys have me doubting a 29G so I'm currently looking for a new stand.
I plan on drilling the 29G but if I get a new stand maybe I will get a whole new setup (tanks and all) If this happens I will give the 29 to my wife for her FW angel tank and I will get a little bigger tank. Any suggestions on drilling kabal2, I believe there is a LFS guy who will do it for ~$15. He won't insure his work but no-one will and he drilled all his LFS tanks (2 holes x 20ish tanks) so I think he should be reasonably good at it.

wow victoria really nice, i wish mine was looking like that, eshook i think you have the right idea in the drilling, of course a lot of people do it them self, ok now i have a question to you 29ers, do you check you ph with a ph monitor?? and if you do how much it swings day to night??

The Reef System is newly finished and I am currently going through my first algae bloom. My next project will be to setup a stand alone top off system for the tank using pressure from an air pump ... As far as your question about pH goes I find pH to be more important than nitrates once the tank is established. pH shouldn't swing much daily however in a weeks time it can change a lot if you top off with FW or do a WC. I do not check pH daily but at least weekly during a water change!
