ya. I dont think anybody that frequents this forum really has any. Either that or they have ugly stupid octopus and they are too embarassed to post them.

Just kidding. I do wish a few people who own them would post in this thread for us all to see though........

Usually "show me" threads like this get a little bit of participation at least........

that wonderpus is amazing i realy would love to see more of them in the WILD. i wonder what their natural numbers are. sad that they are imported it to ****ty LFS

I rarely view or share on this forum. I'm a member of TONMO.com and if you really want to see pictures of captive Octo's you should check out the forum there. Here are pics of my recently departed Tuvalu. The Bahama Starfish you can see in the 4th and 5th link trapped and killed her, unbelievably. She was my ideal "Perfect" pet Octopus from day one, as she came to me when I approached the tank. She accepted thawed silversides and shrimp from my hand. And, she always came out to greet me shortly after I arrived home from work each day. Very depressing. She was my first diurnal Octopus. I believe her to have been O. Filosus.

I'm currently keeping another O. Filosus from SWF.com, which I believe to be a male, which is about twice as big as Tuvalu was. He's not nearly as personable, and does not accept frozen foods. My Bahama Star has been banished to my refugium until I decide what to do with it.

This is Einy, my Octopus Mercatoris, my first Octopus. You might recognize him from Nancy King's article in June 2007's Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine.

He was nocturnal, as are all Mercatoris'. He lived with me for 4 months in a large critter keeper, inside my 75 gallon FOWLR. Not bad for a dwarf, which only live 6-8 months anyway. He was a juvenile when I bought him at a LFS in Dallas. It was quite amazing to watch him take down Fiddler Crabs just as large or larger than himself. He now resides in a small specimen jar of Formalyn.

Thales' Mimic was never received by a LFS, or even an importer for that matter. I'm sure Thales will fill you in on the details.

yes I know very little about octopi, but I do know that the Mimic is rarely seen in the hobby. The only one I have heard of was a wholesaler who found one in a shipment he recieved that was sent by accident, they didn't even know it was in the shipment. So one of the owners or employees took it home.
There was an article in one of the magazines awhile back when they were focusing on Cephlapods that month.

How is the cuttlefish breeding going Rich, any luck? I always consider going into this part of the hobby, especially every time I see an octopus on the stock list for a wholesaler, but I hate the short life spans.

Mimics are rarely seen because they shouldn't be sold right now. Wild populations aren't clear and there could be not very many. I hope the Mimic went into a satisfactory tank, they don't tend to do well even in one set up for an octo.

The June 2007 Tropical Fish Hobbiest featured care of cephalopods of all sorts. It's a really good offline resource for a ceph keeper.

I don't mean to speak for Thales, but he announced a couple weeks ago that his cuttles did lay eggs.

I didn't have a mimic, I had a wunderpus. He died last week after 7.5 months - a record. His body is going to some ceph researchers, and I dropped an arm tip off for DNA mapping for another research project.
That all said, any of the zebra octopus are bad ideas to buy, and prolly will be for a long time. They ship horribly, the don't do well in home aquaria, and to top it all off, they are only interesting a few minutes a day. Even worse, we don't know how large are small their populations are in the wild (we suspect small) and we don't know how collection impacts those populations (we suspect a great deal).
I have an article about the wunderpus in the current issue of Calfos magazine - or you can read it online here http://www.stickycricket.com/cuttle/wunderpus/carticle/index.htm.

The cuttles are doing fine. More eggs last night. I want to watch them develop before I start selling them. :D
