Hey Amy,
What is that red/blue branched coral you have on the right side?
Z.

It 'was' a blueberry gorg. Beautiful but was difficult to keep. Basically melted away over about 2 months. I've heard others had hard times keeping them too.

Lori, I know it's hard but you probably did the right thing.. this is a lot of hard work and committment. I'm glad your guys went to a good home.

Ed,

Do you find that your tang and banggai cardinal eat the foodstuffs too fast etc. Do the seahorses get their share of food? I've wanted to put additional fish in my pony tank, but fear that "agressive" eaters would put some strain on my Reidi trying to properly feed.

I've done fine with the cardinal fishes. My salfin was O.K. for the first few months but then the competion for food, and the whack the seahorse with my side game got to be to much for me. JME.

BTW David, the tanks lookin good.

Kevin

dave,
So far I have not had a problem, but I just decided today to remove them before it became one. I will replace them with some seahorse friendly guys.

That's mine, hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have the back wall (erm eggcrate) covered with LR (been waiting for some cooked (quite literally - heater malfunction) stuff I have to go through it's re-curing phases).

"Excuse me sir, How much are those seahorses"?

Thanks, Doug. Although I might have to make the NOT FOR SALE sign just a tad bit bigger for all to see...

The feeding dish is positioned where there is low flow and is deep enough to keep all the mysis within the dish - so none of it ever floats around the tank. Personally, I do not ever just blow the frozen mysis in the tank and let the seahorses chase it down. I believe, over time, the lost pieces of mysis that get stuck in crevices and such cause the water quality to deteriorate severely. But that's just my opinion and how I run my tanks.

Very rarely is there any leftovers, and if there are they stay within the dish and are siphoned out within an hour after feeding.

Of course, small tiny bits of mysis created from the seahorses eating do float around the tank and are removed by the filter - which is cleaned weekly. But to answer your question...no whole mysis ever leaves the dish or enters the fluval.

Why does it seem that no one uses any type of shrimp for an additional form of clean up crew in there SH tanks other that snails? I was thinking of adding a fire or coral banded shrimp to my tank, but it seems that there is a reason that most people do not use them. Can any one tell my why?

they are not really that effective in my opinion.
I have cleaner shrimp but they really dont contribute that much to cleaning.
What I have discovered is with the right population of various snails, I dont even have to use a mag float any more.
