It's eelgrass. It grows along the estuaries on Cape Cod where I spend weekends. I only take the ones that wash up on shore. I QT them for some time in a 20 G tank, dip em and use them. The seahorses love it. As do the ghost shrimp that try (unsuccessfully) to hide from the H. Reidi.

They don't last long in my system. It is not a proper substrate for them AND the urchin eats it like pasta. But I'm not at a loss for it. I have to clear it from my dock etc. every weekend. It makes a mess.

I'm pretty sure there are legal issues with just running out to a marsh and harvesting. In some states, you can't even collect on the shores. Check with your local authorities first.
