Instant Ocean Salt
Euroreef 8-3 w/meshwheel mod skimmer. Skimming VERY wet.

BLUE WAVE® 2 DUAL PULSE START ballast (sunlight supply)
2 X 250W Lumenmax reflectors 14K Pheonix bulbs w/ 2 X T5 Giesmann Super Actinic and KZ Fiji Purple bulbs.

Thanks for the compliment!

I'm in love with the Phoenix 14k look. In all the tanks i tend to gravitate towrds aesthetically, they all use Phoenix 14k bulbs.
Thus, I love this thread.

I did the mod the the needle wheel myself. I bought the enkemat from ebay for $4 I think. Search for " euroreef mesh mod" on google and you should find the nice little podcast video on how to mod the wheel.

For Zeovit I am using the basic four plus sponge power, coral snow, K-balance, and AAHC.

HTH!

here's my 60g cube back in the day... Phoenix 250w DE no actinics

Very nice. Did you have the light angled to make that effect or did it just do that in the photo? The angle of the light makes it look very natural.

what kind of angels are those in the above pic?

The Shoop kind, I can tell by the pixels and having seen a few shoops in my time.

I guess only 4chaners will get that lol

No I didn't angle the light or anything, I was sitting on the floor when I took that shot. Anyways, you know what's funny.. up until last week, I HATED the Phoenix lamp. HATED it. That cube pic was being driven by an IceCap e-ballast and as you can see it looks like someone had poured Windex in the tank. Anyways, I just switched to an HQI (M80) ballast and OMG.. the difference was like night and day. The PEC lamp now burns crisp white with a strong actinic tinge it makes every SPS flouresce, as opposed to a dark blue like when it was being driven by IceCap. However I still think it can't hang with Iwasaki 14K in terms of perceived brightness IMO.

I need to snap a pic of my current setup with the PEC lamp.

what is a PEC lamp? Some acronym for phoenix? It sounded like you were talking about the phoenix bulb and how you hated it then you referenced a PEC lamp? Sorry, just a bit confused.

Those are Bandit Anglefish Holacanthus arcuatus only found in Hawaii.

They are Apolemichthys arcuatus, not Holocanthus.

i only run these bulbs

3 on PFO HQI ballast i tried other bulbs before and these offer the best combo fo growth and color ina single bulb with out having to run supplemental lights

^^^^I used to love them but after going back to it from the radium I hate it, lol. Without the actinic on the tank it just looks blah to me. I'm going to leave this on for awhile as I just switched back to it from the radium and don't want to keep changing and stressing things out even more. The corals look great though, I just can't get over the blah, dimmed look of the over all tank with the phoenix.
