potassium

That probably won't work since nitrate is consumed as well. I'd guess aspartate to be metabolized fairly rapidly, especially as bacteria in the tank get used to finding it in the water.

Well I guess it wouldn't be much different than adding another N and C source. If I cloud up, I know it's too much!

I dont see why not. If it's good for human consumption, it's good for my tank. Besides, it's wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

It seems a lot of reefers using this KCL for supplement instead of Zeovit K+ balance.
Not to be argumentative - but a lot of reefers also are completely ignoring Potassium. IME, there's been a kit out/etc for less than 6 months ... IMO most folks who have kept SPS tanks for years are not using this [except the few that run zeo].

When it gets past a year or more - then I'll see a trend. Until that point - has anyone really had a chance to evaluate the long-term in any sense at all?

I'm still confused how we are not providing plenty of potassium in the foods we feed. IMO, it seems like that would be a fail-safe method of dosing ;)

No, I've never tested it. When Ron Shimek did this study, few folks had depleted potassium. The average came out a tad higher than NSW:

In the forementioned study, they did not find a deficiency so how are so many finding low K levels with the "test"?

Didn't I read somewhere that zeolites remove K from the water column. I just woke up and on my first cup of cofee so I may be way off here.

I agree that I don't quite understand it either, although I've not yet seen a detailed in/out balance study for potassium.

One of the things that I am hoping to see one way or the other is whether folks dosing potassium chloride see any change in the aquarium. So far I've not heard of any.

That is a possibility, but probably unlikely unless people are constantly swapping in large amounts of fresh zeolite.

Do you feel it is an error on the part of these new tests popping up, possibly an error in the 2002 study, or ??

IMO, if you don't run Zeovit, you really don't have to worry about Potassium. I used to have NSW (or Catalina water-CW particular) for my preivious tank for more than two years, and I didn't see anywrong. Since I switched over the Zeo for new tank, somehow the K+ is really low. I think most folks those uze Zeo run into low Potassium. I tested the K+ of my friend's tank who uses CW, his k+ around 280ppt but his tank looks awesome.

i have noticed that since i started doing the blues and purples in my corals have really shown up.. i also dropped my tanks temp from 80 to 77 but the change is dramatic...

lol.. well i did raise my K+ level a little faster than you did, i am at 325/350 ( as of this morning) i dosed 4 tlbs a day for a week now and i have use 1 bottle so far.. my level used to be 250. I hope to have my K level at 400 by the middle of next week...
