potassium

thats why they make a K stong to raise levels faster.. the normal Zeo K balance is supposed to be used to maintain levels..

I'm not stupid to pay for an arm and leg for the Zeovit K-strong since KCL is more cheaper.

to each his own...

Maybe they use the KCL for K Strong, then put their own lable to become Zeovit K-Strong.

lol there may be more to it... but i know what you mean...

Wow! that much money did you spend on Zeovit K-ballance.

heck yeah, two of 500ml and 1 of 250ml to raise from 220 to 320 for 180g tank.

You tell me how much it cost?

If their K balance can not keep up with the level then I should question the rest of the their stuffs.

Just a thought, you guy's can pick it apart if you want.

Bot method's, Zeo and BB rely heavily on skimming of bacteria. Both are using oversized skimmer's. For example, bomber uses a bullet 3 on his tank wich is pretty large, about 400 gallon's IIRC. Now your not that bad with a 280 and the same skimmer, but many have much smaller tank's with these skimmers. You feed the tank heavily, but the food's are not right for coral's and they get skimmed out too fast. The breakdown of waste is greatly limited and good food that would normally be eaten and reeaten untill it was the size the coral's like is in really short supply. If they had more of that food they would be eating K along with the other thing's they need to survive and grow. Without it they start to metabolize themselves untill their tissue becomes so thin it blow's off.

You could be right. I've never had the washed out color thing in my BB tank because I feed heavy and have alot of fish. A local reefer runs Zeo so I figured get him to test my water for K+, it came back at 325. I bumped it to 380-400, and the montis look better than they have ever looked. fwiw my system goes just under 400g with sump but I do run a second skimmer, a samller NW.

How do you test every thing?

Has anyone tested NSW with the Zeo K kit? I did and found the kit to read it at about 250. Granted, the kit is very difficult to read, at least for me. Anyone else do this check? When you use this kit how are you determining your results? What I mean is that you are suppose to hold the sample over the color chart and as you slide the sample over the chart the end point result is when you can no longer see the color chart through the sample, this is an imprecise methodology IMO---your thoughts??

Those using the KCL to boost K levels, have you seen any negatives??

I agree 100% Dr. Mac. this is the worst Test ever, But it is the only one I'm aware of. I believe lighting is a huge factor as to the results you can get. I guess if you are consistent in lighting and test conditions you can get an accurate result over time.

Anyone use NSW and used this test? I have tested bottled NSW and also water that has come in shipments direct from the Solomon Islands and I know that is NSW too and the results of both are about 250 with the Zeo K test. Despite the test being difficult to read the results on NSW I have checked with this kit are not at 400.

DR. Mac, how was the temp of the sample water? the temp can give you at least 20ppt diff.

That test kits is PITA, all new users always post question about that test kit.

yes, I check my friend's tank who runs Catalina Water (CW), it's around 270-300ppt of K+.

So far, I have not seen any negative issues by dosing KCL in four diff tanks. The fact that I have my faith in Randy's recommedation.

yes that is how you test for K+.. it is not a very good( easy to read) test kit i agree i have asked Habib in the Salifert forum and jesse in the Elos forum for K+ test kits but thus far they are " in the works"

after dosing KCL i noticed my purples and blues became more intense.. the iron the zeo sells seems to bring up the greens... I have been dosing for 3 weeks now( my level went from 250- 375) and i have seen no ill side effects...

Randy posted a few pages back that K+ is found at levels around 400... and he is the man as far as salt water parameters go....:D

Yes, we tested our friend's tank who runs Scrip Water (it came from San Diego), it's around 260-280K+.
