Potential AEFW and Bug Dip

Hello everyone,

saw something pretty neat in the LFS and wanted to share. The guy at the LFS told me that when he dips he doesnt use the conventional options on the market, but instead uses Melafix, an inexpensive and readily available medication designed to treat ailments in fish. he said it's not as harsh on the coral as the iodine based methods and it rips apart any pest on the coral. according to him - both AEFW and red bugs, along with anything else that's on there will get removed with this dip.

so i figured why not, and what i saw was really fascinating to me. i have dipped many corals but never seen anything come off (which is good i suppose). however this time when i dipped the corals a number of copepod like bugs fell off, a snail that i didnt even notice fell off, and AEFW fell off within 5 seconds.

It was like they were melting. It was very cool.

dosage was 2 capfuls of melafix to about 1.5 quarts (~40 oz) of tank water.
anyways, just wanted to offer it up as an option. i cant vouch for long term success or anything like that as i just learned about it today, so take it for what it's worth.

Interesting?

Melafix has a similar odor to CoralRx or ReVive probably as many of the same ingredients only stronger. I find iodine dips effective but harsh too.

Yes many have been using melafix as dips for a long time, pretty much does the same thing as CoralRx or Revive. I would still do a interceptor dip to rid acropora of red bugs.
