potters angel success??

Well I am not sure if this counts as success but I bought a potters About 3 to 4 months ago and had it in my mixed reef with no coral, clam, or invert nipping. He was eating like a horse! He ate frozen mysis, brine, seaweed delight, Nori, frozen homemade food, and even flake!

Unfortunately my tank began to leak so i had to do a hasty transfer to a new tank in the course of two days. While in a 44 gallon brute trash can he got stuck under some rock and died of the stress/injury I think. It's too bas because he was a beautiful and majestic fish and they are becoming increasingly hard to come across. :(

I recently gave mine away to a friend after it nipped at my flame angel. I had mine for over 2 1/2 years with no coral or clam nipping at all. He was a very fat fish and ate everything. The only thing he didn't eat that well was nori but other than that he was one of the best fish I've ever had.

as far as nipping, it is an angel if you are worried about it nipping do not buy it. as far as long term survival. they are pretty hearty once you get them eating good, but they do not ship well and do not acclimate well to the home aquarium if you are buying one make sure it is eating well. getting one to eat is the big issue with potters.

I've had one in a 150 fowlr for about a year. It now eats anything that goes in the tank but the first month or so it ONLY ate what it picked off of the rock. Large amounts of established LR seemed to be the key to its initial survival.

One of my favorite fish. I have had two over the past ten years. One in a 150 for about 2-3 years until I took down the tank, and recently one in my 90g for just over a year now. Both we're very moderately aggressive with others by always trying to get between other fish and food, but never nipping at them or the corals. Both had pretty much the same personality - want to be the king fish on the reef, but not mean.

My first one ate nori, the one I have now doesn't touch it. Both ate pellets and flake.

Tank mates include fairy wrasses, anthias, firefish, basslets, blennies and gobis.

i have had mine in a 34 gallon red sea max for 3 years and he eats like a fat kid. occasional nips on corals and clams but not enough to warrant getting rd of him.

id love to keep this fish but every time ive got one it wont eat and then it dies off due to noteating or stress. QT them help when shipped

I put mine right in the dt so it has plenty of mature rock to pick on if it didn't want to take prepared right away. I also got it really small, roughly 2" maybe a little less. It now eats anything I drop in, chases pellets all over the tank.

Tanks is a 40breeder with about 50-60lbs of rock. He does seem to like seriatapora though :(

thanks for the info guys and gals......I might have to put one on order at my lfs!!!!! Wht are the best pellets to feed?? and wht size?

I have had a couple over the years.

I had a pair for about 6 months -- lost both of them when I had to have emergency surgery and my sump ran dry.

Then I bought a single one, about 3 months later I paired it up with a new (( smaller )) one. They were getting along great for about 2 months, and even showing some pre-spawning behavior. Then, one morning the larger/male died -- have no idea why. I still have the smaller one, and moved it to my cube. I have had this one for about a year now -- it eats; LifeLine's Herbivore mix, Rod's food (( red, blue and green label )), Prime Reef and PE mysis. It doesn't seem to like Spectrum pellets, whereas all my other angels love them.
