Potters angelfish question

I've had mine for a year now, it eats anything I put in the tank. From what I've read, most don't handle the shipping process, and die a few days after arriving at fish stores. Two of the LFS's near me don't even order them because of all the issues.

My tank has a lot of rock work, with plenty of little caves and openings for the Potters to hide in. I think the hardest part of a Potter's is getting one that handled the shipping process well

I'm happy that I've had good results with mine, its the fish that really got me interested in saltwater

I had a potters that I picked up from a LFS. It was there for a month and eating flakes well. He never gave me any issues. He was a bully to new fish additions though, so you may want him to be in last.

Temp of my tank is 77.5.

DO you have a QT you can put him in to make sure he eats well before putting him in your DT?

I keep my reef between 75-78 with a small chiller and I just snagged up a pair of potters angels along with a pair of wrasses and put them in my dt. all four are doing well even after a bit of aggression from an established multicolor angel. They all get along well now and eat everything. The potters pair pick on my LR all day long.... So if can give a bit of advice would be maybe put some pods in a sump/refugium where they can breed and supply your tank. Ive done that a few times and usually put 2 bottles at a time. I have pods like crazy in my dt (u see them at night w a flashlight)

I have seem in several other posts in this discussion, that LA Divers Den potter angels have a good reputation of survival rate. Don't know if it is "fact" but read enough comments to lend it some credibility. I have had good experiences with Divers Den as well.

Well, I see this is a species that won't be in my tank anytime soon. Cannot keep it below 80 these days. I may have to buy a chiller. Its the heat wave here in Texas. My AC can barely keep it 83 F in the house because of Barstow, Ca. type afternoon temps.
Sorry for that digression, but I do think that productive LR is *ALMOST* a must for Centropyge angels. They just do better with it. Yes, this is an opinion..

I kept a large male potter's in a relatively newly established tank (~6 mths) for over a year. The magic trick? He was eating like a horse at the LFS before I bought him. He also was the largest fish in the tank, not sure if that matters. Tank was maintained at 78 degrees.

He never really picked at the rocks. He did usually mouth new corals on the first few days after they went in but they never showed negative symptoms as a result of this. He left them alone after a week at the longest, never to touch them again. He was mesmerizing, an absolutely beautiful fish.

I would've dearly loved to have kept one, myself. Well, maybe someday..
Best bet is to find one that will eat in the LFS or Dealer's tank.
Which is something I always try to see with all my Centropyge angels. It doesn't mean they will survive, but it removes one *HUGE* headache for you!
