Powder Blue and Achilles??

Semper Fi 1959

In Memoriam
Just wondering if ANYONE out there thinks I could successfully house both a Powder Blue Tang and an Achilles Tang together in a 220 reef with tons of live rock and other 'dither fish'. I am pretty sure I already know the answer, and the dither fish and lots of live rock hiding places are just my excuses to try to talk myself into trying this. I know what I'd tell anyone else that wanted to try it, but it's so different when it's something you want for YOURSELF. I should just heed my own warning and take my own advice...and not try it.

Just thought I'd throw this out there though in the hopes someone has successfully done this.

Other info:

They'd be the only 2 Acanthurus Tangs
They'd be on the small side - 2 inches
They'd be added together
They'd be housed with Anthias and Wrasses

I think it would be ok.. But....only if both tangs were added at the same time.
Also, you need to watch your bio load (how many wrasse and anthias are you planning to have in there), particularly if you feed multiple times a day for your anthias. A good skimmer would be essential.
The PBT is very prone to ich so QT is recommended.
Achilles like lots of flow so make sure you cater for that.
They will eventually get big and you may need a game plan for them then. However, if you are buying small specimens the they will be fine for a few years .

I kinda had all of those bases covered...I hope.

I went with an MSX-250 skimmer and have 3 Tunze 6100's plus a Wavebox for flow...am trying to decide if I want the 4th 6100 or not.

Still debating on the sea swirl for the returns. I'm using a Blueline 1750 external pump for the return. There will be a refugium, MRC sump, and an MRC 75 gallon reef ready softy display in line with my 220 display.

I agree with BangkokMatt and would like to add that I had a PBT and an Achilles together when I had a 300G for years and they never had any problems. Two places that you clip nori to and having it available as much as possible will be a good idea. Good luck.

I think you will be fine. I have 6 tangs in my 375 with two in my 90 gallon frag tank. Of course I don't have two acanthurus together. Tried an achilles with my fowleri and the achilles got ich and passed away. I think I stocked up too quickly though.
