Powder Blue Bully

Well, that didn't go well.
I introduced a 6" Desjardini, a 3" Desjardini and a Rusty Angel to my 350 on Saturday. The 3 of them had been fine in a 40b QT setup for over a month post TTM.
My 5" Powder Blue immediately went after the big Desjardini, who immediately put the PBT in its place. On Monday, the PBT started picking on the smaller Desjardini, slicing his dorsal fin. He never lets up as long as the lights are on.
Today I was able to catch the PBT and remove him to the 40b for a timeout.
The PBT really is pretty and never bothered any of the other tangs in the tank ( 5" Naso, 4" Chevron ). Is there any hope I will be able to re-add the PBT in the future, or should I start looking for a new home him?
I'd hate to see him go, but the Desjardini's trump all other tangs for me, so if it's one or he other, the PBT is out.

In answer to your question, I do believe there is hope to reintroduce him. We also have a butthead PBT who had killed a copperband previously so when we introduced our purple tang we trapped the PBT and banned him to the sump for about 3 weeks. They have been all together now for about 15 months with no issues (other large tank makes: Naso tang, magnificent fox, purple tang). Good luck!

LOL true. I lough every time I watched the video. My diamond tail flasher wrasses bosses around my azure damsels. Yes, a flasher wrasse bullying damsels too. I might have gotten the wimpiest damsels

Thanks for your response. Hope I get some other opinions. We'll see what a month in QT does for his attitude.

I doubt you need to keep him separate for a month. In a few more days once the sailfins are settled in you should be able to reintroduce. I don't think a few extra weeks is going to make a difference in how the fish reacts when it gets reintroduced.

Mmm, too late now. Just added 2 fish out of TTM to the QT yesterday AM. He is in it for the long haul now. Sucks to be him.

Update. After a month in timeout, he went back in the big tank Saturday. Chevron was NOT thrilled to see him and and they had to settle the pecking order. But now all is well. Happy this worked itself out and the PBT gets to stay.

Yes. They are all still playing nicely together now.
A little jostling at feeding time, but that's it.
I would try the timeout process in your situation, but maybe not a month :lol:
If you have the room in your tank, you could build an isolation cage from eggcrate.
I use one all the time now for new fish thatwon't swim through the grate.
Much easier than trying to get a fish out of a 10' long tank.
