my new powder blue has an almost dusty face to him. It looks like sand is stuck to his face. Dont know what it is. take a look and see if you can help me ID it and set a proper course of action.
Thanks-

Ps it resemble ick to me just not sure...your thoughts?

thats what it looks like, his face has saltly looking particles scattered all over. Ive already set up a QT tank and transfered my fish to it. I think im going to do a hyposalinity treatment to try and kill the parasite.

He died last night in the QT tank. He was infested with the white dots.

Im treating the others

1 question- do these parasites feed on inverts like snails, shrimp, or corals? Or can I leave my display alone and just treat the QT tank? I know to leave the main tank fallow to break the cycle im just wondering if left with out a host will these parasites eat anything?

You can leave inverts in the show tank ... ich need a fish to perpetuate their life cycle and cannot use snails/crabs/corals etc.

Hypo only treats ich, not velvet. Do a FW dip on an infected fish. If you see white "dust" in the bottom of a clear container it is velvet and must be treated with copper. If the spots don't come off w/a FW dip then it is ich and can be treated w/hypo.

Problem is that the PB already died and none of the other fish have shown symptoms yet. But I still have them in my QT and Im lowering the SG slowly to 1.010.

Last night the main tank was swarming with white specks swimmng around the tank. I think it was the parasites looking for a new host. They must of hatched and been hungry.

Not sure what your seeing in the ST ... but you can't see ich swimming around .. probably pods or something else that is likely harmless.

the hypo doesnt seem to be doing anything to stop the spread of this disease. Another fish got the white specks 2 days ago and died this morning. I think Im dealing with MV and not ICH.

I guess my next course of action is to raise my Sg slowly and then treat with Copper?

Will that tank I treat the copper in be contaminated with copper forever?

Should I dip my remaining fish in RO water to drop any non visable trophants?

any reasurance would be appreciated. TY

that is velvet, bring all of the fish in your tank to a medacated tank as soon as possible one with copper, i lost every single fish in my tank to velvet in one week, they died one after another.... take them to copper before they all die out like mine did and then let the tank cycle for a 2-4 weeks.......and yea it isnt good to use one of your own tanks for copper treatment, i would check and see if a local LFS store carrys a copper based tank

can someone post a picture of ich and velvet they look the same to me. I think my old 20g was killed the same way as well. it spread to all the fishes and killed it in a week. Would greately appreciate a pciture if both comapring and a little info on each pic thanks,
