Powder Blue in hospital tank

Not sure if this is the right place but i figure id ask for some advice>

I picked up a PBT early Feb and within 3 Days of QT it developed a pretty good case of ick. I started dropping the salinity and now about 2 weeks sitting in low salinity his behaviour is starting to worry me.

The tang has been ick white dot free for about 6 days now and has developed the pale white tiger stripes(heard this is aggression and stress). The fish is also doing alot of pacing back and forth in the QTank. The good news is he eats like a horse, stares at me and follows me when im near the tank and has put on a nice belly since ive gotten him but now am thinking he might be better off going back to full salinity and into the DT to eliviate his small tank stresses

Any tips would be appreciated, tang is 2.5" long,QT tank is 20gtall 1.011S,Biowheel filter, koralia nano and some pvc housing.

do you have rock or PVC for him to hid in? i had a powder blue in a 10g QT. i just had in him in there for a week to make sure he is eating and healthy but i had LR and PVC for him to hid in. only time he freaked and showed the white bands is when i put my hand in the tank to move something. after a week i moved him into the DT and he is doing fine with a yellow tang, besides the occasional "im bigger and the boss" actions from the YT. id move him into the DT sooner rather than later.

Full QT would be a course of Prazipro/Cipro (for intestinal parasites/gram negative and positive bacteria) followed by 6 weeks (2 full life cycles of ick) of hyposalinity or copper. So the idea is to make your PBT comortable by minimizing stress. Give him a safe hiding place where he can't be seen and monitor water quality closely for ammonia. The pacing is to be expected- chalk it up to boredom and stress- some rocks to swim around and divide the tank in separate regions will help. If he is eating and gaining weight, he doing ok for a QT environment.

IMO that's crazy advice. The PBT are notorious ich magnets. To put him prematurely into the display will only make things worse. ex. It(ich) can wipe out all the fish in the display.

Thanks for the replies, im going to continue QT in hyposalinity, he has a large pcv Y connector to hide in.

I agree. By the way to the original poster, hyposalinity is 1.009
