Powder Blue pictures

Yeah, I agree there. I've owned two in the three years or so I've been in the hobby. Both have never had a spot of ich on them, but both were properly quarantined and I kept good care of them.

I'm actually going to start running UV on my tank here soon. All my fish are fine and healthy but I think it will help me keep nutrients as low as possible, I'm not doing it for the parasite control because I dont believe I have parasites.

UV does a good job with algae; that's why pond keepers love them. Glad to hear about the parasites; I don't have any either. I think UV can actually have a negative effect on people who think that it will control or cure a parasite infestation; by giving them a them a false sense of security and delaying real treatment.

I'd agree with that. I cant tell you how many posts I've read about a guy saying that he runs UV on his tank so he doesnt have to QT his fish and then later on posts asking how to treat for ich because a new fish came in with it.

I'm actually not 100% sure if I'm going to start running UV or not. I dont really have algae problems, but I plan on adding a new light that supposedly will grow corals well and so I assume the algae will start growing as well. Seems kind of silly really to add a coral growing light on a FOWLR but I like my fish to look good and you need a good light for that.

IMO, fish look better under "coral" lighting because its usually MH. MH adds a shimmer that no fluorescent bulb can duplicate; but they are also expensive, need frequent replacing, and use plenty of watts. The good news; LEDs match the shimmer at a fraction of the cost; both up-front and ongoing. DD has MH lighting for all of their fish photos, even though they may not need it for corals, etc.

I definitely agree, the whole reason I'm purchasing coral lighting is so that my fish look good :)

Agreed. I just hope they are blue enough. My fluorescent lighting I was using before was pretty blue, I guess, I liked the way my fish looked. I went to this new T5 setup which is quite a bit more yellow than I wanted, even though I'm running a 10K and a 460n actinic.

Hopefully these lights are more blue. They are supposed to be, but I guess I wont know until the end of the week when I receive them. I'm plenty happy with white lighting, it doesnt have to be deep blue, I just dont want yellow.

And I'm really hoping they are intense enough lighting to allow me to take pictures easier, my old light was just too dim. That's the only good thing about this T5 setup I go, it's bright, 80w vs my old 20w, and it spreads so it's easy to get a picture anywhere in the tank. I'm a little worried these LEDs are so focused that I'm going to have spotlight type effect in the tank and not be able to get pictures in certain areas. I guess we will find out.

Beautiful fish! Keep this thread updated with growth, if you don't mind. Mine is going on 4.5 years with virtually no growth :( Looks amazing though.
