Powder blue tang aggressive?

They are fairly high up on the scale of aggressiveness, particularly to after-added fish (the pbt should be the last fish in the tank), other tangs, and other fish it sees as competitors for its food. My pbt occasionally hassles my moorish idol and I think it is because the idol is the pbt's equal in chasing down food and eats all of the same foods.

The only other tang with the powder blue will be a yellow tang. Planning on adding them both at the same time and as the last fish in the tank.

PBT is very aggressive. Mine attacks every single new addition to the tank, except for fish much different in sizes, such as wrasses. However, it generally only takes a day or two before he stops attacking. My PBT never has any long-term problem with any other fish.

Ideally, it should be the last tang to add to the tank.

I added mine the same time as a yellow tang. They bickered a bit in the QT but for the last year have been insepartable, they are rarely less than than 12" apart. A larger sailfin was in the tank first and occassionally they chase each other, but no damage.

Like I keep saying, every fish is different and you never know what they will do. I purchased a beautiful PB from a club member that was taking down his tank. He had kept it with a Yellow tang. The PB and his YT had been best buddies so I wasnt worried. I added the PB to my tank and it absolutely hated my YT. I actually saw it pin the YT to the bottom of the tank and beat on it. It had all my other fish totally freaked out so I pulled the PB and sold it to another club member (with full disclosure). By the second day the PB and his Yellow tang were inseparable even sleeping together side to side. Crazy!!!

If you want to try a PB it may just be a good idea to have a back up plan.

What sized tank? It makes a difference.

+1. Sizes makes a huge difference in terms of whether PBT's aggression would persist. In my 225g my PBT never harrasses any new addition for more than a day or two, but in a 100g the aggression would probably last for a long time.

I agree with the tank size comments. IMO & IME; cramped quarters is in direct proportion to aggression with almost all tangs.

yeah...planning to put them in a 100g tank. I will definitly quarentine. I quarentine plan on quaretining all my fish for my new setup.

but I'll definitly add the PB and the YT at the same time in the display tank, but they'll be in separate QT tanks.

I wouldn't add either of them to a 100g tank. I know a lot of people would still put a YT in a tank that size, but I wouldn't.
