Recently I purchased a Nikon D40x with the 18-55mm kit lens. I decided to upgrade the lens but since my budget is limited I purchased the Nikon18-70mm zoom. Better construction and better glass.

Here are some pics of my Powder Blue Tang in my 125 reef.

Settings are +/-
speed 1/50-1/60
f4.5-6.3
ISO 400
closeups - 70mm
fts - 18mm

Those are beautiful pictures. I just got a D80 and I can't figure out for the life of me how to get good pictures. Not to mention it weighs about a million pounds so after 50 or so pictures my hand is really starting to hurt!

Thanks for the comments on my pics

icechimpee ask - How you liking the Nikon D40x?

I like my Nikon very much. When I started taking pictures I was confused with settings. After some practice I started to see an improvement. Today I can say that I am very happy with it.

One thing I like of the D40x is the Camera Information display in the rear instead of in the small and very difficult to read Top Control Panel in the D80.

What I don't like is the limitation in lenses because the AF motor is in the lens and not the camera.

My father has the D80 and is a little big for my hands.

Try the settings I used with my D40x in your D80 and you should get good results. Don't forget that for every 10 photos only one is nice and sharp. Fish move very quick!

Thanks for the info, I will have to try those settings... once I figure out how to get to those settings! haha

I got the D80 as a present, I didn't even know about these kind of cameras! I have a lot to learn
