Powder Blue Tang

Hi I just added a powder blue tang to my 120 gl tank. I also have a powder brown in the tank (that now seems to have his nose bent out of shape). The brown chases the blue and nips at his fins . Can anyone tell me if this it normal behavior and will they ajust to each other . The blue is hiding in the one corner of the tank right now.

yeah that is normal because there a related species they are basically the same fish but diff color and both are territorial. powder blues are notorius for popping with ick when stressed i would seperate the two to save them.

Any tang with the same body shape will have problems together in a tank.

For example: yellow and purple tangs, clown and sohal tangs, powder blue and brown tangs share a similar body shape. As a result, they won't be compatible.

These two fish will have problems sooner than later. I would suggest you separate them. I would not house those two fish in the same tank unless it was close 500 gallons. I probably still wouldn't try it though because of how aggressive and how prone to disease they both are.

Hope this helps,

Jim

thanks for the input.... the blue tang has now been moved to my other tank .... he is now in with a lion that is about the same size.
