Powder Blue Tangs

Want to add a powder blue tang to my 125 gallon tank. Tank mates include anthias, pair of clowns, blue damsel, cardinal, cleaner shrimp and hermit crab. Compatability should be no problem. Everone I talk to says Power Blues are very hard to keep and not to do it. Are they really that tough to keep, If water quality is good? I was also told not to try Anthias but todate they are doing fine? I would appriciate advise from anyone out there that has a powder blue and what your experience has been, especially regarding ick.

Powder Blue Tang survival rates have been closely tied to there area of collection.

This was confirmed by someone at Liveaquaria here at Reef Central (can't find the link sorry).

Basically you want a Powder Blue from the Maldives, not Sri Lanka. They still aren't the easiest of fish to keep by far, but you will run into much less problems in QT in regards to disease if you go with a Maldive Powder Blue.

FWIW

I got my PB last Wednesday from Live Aquaria (they only sell Maldive Powder Blues), not a single sign of any form or Ich (Black or White).... or other disease of any kind.

He hasn't eaten yet, but that has been attributed to the small QT Tank I have him in. I'm thinking of moving him to the display Wednesday or Thursday Night, barring any set backs medically in regards to the fish.

I got mine from liveaquaria divers den and mine ate straight out of the shipping bag but i also put him in a 75g qt with lots of flow( he loves to play in the korala flow)
