i just bought my first fish and made the mistake of not running a QT, he looked really good color wise and was swimming fine the first few days i had him then on the third day, one evening i noticed he had a slime like string hanging off his fins, the next day i wolk up to him swimming straight up and down and struggling to stay off the sand bed. he had a layer of white/clear mucus stringing off his side. it appeared be the whole side of the tangs mucus was shedding off and to be in his gills and died shortly afterwards. ive been looking on this site for something that sounds resonably close to what i experienced however i cant find anything, maybe velvet or brook is the only thing i can come up with.i called the LFS i got him from and he blamed it on bristleworms.... not sure if this is the culpret? my water parameters are fine. please offer any advice, i would like to know if this killer is still alive in my tank, or something the LFS sold me already in the fish. thanks

Find it hard to believe that it was bristleworms ? Wish I could offer more help but I have never had brook or velvet in any of my fish only Ich, and fish lice, and flukes wish I could be more help Im sure others will be along to give you a clue :) Sorry about your loss.
A Qt is a must! We all over look it at one time or another but it's peace of mind for me
Not only are you able to watch the fish closely and treat without stressing him to much but also to make sure he eating and give him time to rest away from the other fish :)
As I said though Im very sorry they are beautiful fish :)
