power center question

looks like i may be 1 of the few who have this problem. I have the single dial unit and have that exact problem. the lights will get stuck on or off. So i gave up on using the timer controlled outlets and am now just using the constants. I know the box timers are big and bulky but they are reliable so i would go that route.

Seems like maybe the problems run with about half of the people...

It's good idea, maybe the engineering should have been better?

i use a series of digital timers from a local electrical store. they cost around £10 each. and work perfectly. i just have them pluged into a DJ power centre

mine has worked fine for over a year any part can catch on fire at any time no matter what the product unfortinatly

These are all really good points. I am glad that there are so many people sharing their experiences with these items.

Yeah, I am still divided. I really don't like the idea of losing the dusk/dawn effect.

Why would you lose the dusk to dawn effect?

Use the one with 2 dials. Its better designed for controlling your lights. The one dial controls the daylight and the other controls the Actinic/Moonlight & Fuge Light.

I plug my Daylights into the Yellow outlet.. The other two yellow outlets are left unused. The timer is set to have the daylight come on from 11am to 8pm.

I plug my Actinics/Dusk&Dawn Lights into the Blue outlet. The other blue outlet is left unused. They come on at 9am and go off at 9pm to create a dusk/dawk effect.

I plug the Moonlights into the black outlet #1 and I plug my Fuge light into black outlet #2. When the actinics go off the moonlights and fuge light come on.

Ok, maybe I am confused. Do you have the single or dual dial timer. I understood that the single dial made the power to the alternate outlets exclusive of each other. Did I have that wrong?

I've been using these for years without problems, both the double and the singles. I also recently bought one of the digital ones (~3 months ago) and it too is doing fine. The only problem I ever had was when one was accidentally exposed to water while it was unplugged and when I plugged it back in it didn't work and made a scary sound. My LFS has told me that the digital ones they're seeing returned back frequently; apparently they're not lasting.

I have a dual dial and a digital one. I use the dual dial for lights and it works great. See Above.

I use the digital one to control my Kalk reactor. I did not buy it for that purpose but found out it works good for my system. The digital has 7 cycle settings and I use 4 of them for my Kalk stirrer. I plug my Kalk Stirrer (Magnetic Stirrer) into one of the yellow outlets. I then set 4 of the 7 cycles to turn on/off from
Cycle #1: 5:00 am - 5:05am
Cycle #2: 11:00 am - 11:05am
Cycle #3: 5:00 pm - 5:05pm
Cycle #4: 11:00 pm - 11:05pm

Now the nice thing about this setup is that when the yellow outlets are ON the blue are OFF. So I plug my ATO into a blue outlet so that it will not add Kalkwasser to my sump while the mixer is stirring.

I did not buy this for this purpose but it works for my needs. I used the 4 white sockets to power my heater, fan, etc... since they do not run on a cycle.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not read your previous post closely enough. Good use for the extra outlets. Right now I just run kalk through my ATO. I t would be better to at least restrict it to when the lights are out.

I have the digital, and every time I unplugged my wc pump from the strip the time would reset. I now use a different outlet and all has been well for a year.

I've been through three of them in 2 years...one digital and two dial. The timers burnt out on all of them. I have heard of these starting fires. I won't use them again!

I highly recomend an Ac Jr with 2 HD-4 box's (2x4 independently controlled outlets, HD = H/Duty) you can link up to 3 x HD's for 12 outlets total. more variations than you can think of, or possibly use. Temp, PH probe included with controller.
Look up the features for one, you won't be disappointed if you buy one. Check the for sale forums, I've seen some for a great price.

Now I spend more time enjoying my reef, instead of dealing with nonsense all the time.

JUST MY OPINION

It would interesting to do some polling to see the satisfaction of this item with other people. I can't seem to do this at this point.

I bought three of these from home depot and they are GREAT! it comes with a battery back-up and to turn it on manualy you just push the face of the panel and it clicks on, also changes for daylight savings time by itself, for $17 you can't beat it. I couldn't stand my cheap dial timers the time would float until the lights wouldn't go off untol 10 pm. ARRRG!
