I have purchased lights from E bay before and I have also gotten them from Dr.Foster and SMith.
The lights on Ebay are good lights BUT they lose thier spectrum quickly. Around 3 to 4 months.
The lights on Dr F&S are coralife or Current and they hold spectrum for around 12 months.
Those times are relative to amount of useage and the heat they are subjected to.
It's not just in the bulb producing light but in what spectrum they produce light. If you have a bulb putting out the wrong spectrum you end up having unwanted growth of things in the tank, i.e. green hair and cyno.
The one thing I have learned about lighting. You can get it cheap but you usually don't get the results you want out of it.
