I was using a Rio+ 50 too. Just the right power for a nano/pico. However, once I got rid of the filter that came with the tank and started using a larger capacity Penguin 100 I have enough flow that I don't use the Rio in the tank anymore.
One thing I like about the Rio is that it comes with adapters that provide a nipple for an air feed tube; it uses water current to draw air bubbles into the flow. But, as long as I give 1/2" of drop from my new filter, I get enough air anyway.
So, I guess the point is, its a good little powerhead... but chances are you get enough flow and O2 from your filter.
ahhhh i see i was like where is he/she going with this??? lol... yea i had a pico with rio 50 and it was perfect. Ahhhh those were the days. Then i added 17 more gallons now running a K2 :smokin:
Lol you always make the most broad recommendations. What size pico tank are we talking here? I had a Koralia 240 in my 6.6g but one of my friends tried the same pump in his 3g and it was too much. The flow is very narrow and blows sand around.
Honestly the BEST pico powerhead I could think of would be the MP10ES but it's $$$. You can taylor the flow to whatever you want and the pattern is very wide so you wouldn't have much sand blown around. The only issue is it will only work on a flat glass panel. A lot of guys are running them on the 4g JBJ picotope and are pretty happy with it.
