Well, were getting into that time of year when storms can cause power outages....

short of buying a gererator, what can a reefer due to prevent fish & corals from getting overstressed or even worse death?

what have you done in the past?
is there something you can develop in case your not home?

Battery operated air pumps have been rumered to help. I opted for the generator and it saved my tank last summer. of course the neighbor had to turn it on while talking to me on the phone since we were on vacation during the outage.

well, I think at a minumum youll want a battery operated air pump, there are some that sense a power outage and come on automatically.

Some way to power a heater would be wise also, especially if you have a small tank in a cold climate.

If your in a hot climate, then some battery operated fans would be in order for cooling.

Those couple things will probably get you though most power outages.

A guy i know uses a USP (used for computers when the power goes out).

They only run a computer for like 15 minutes but theyll run some low energy powerheads (Koralia, modded MJ) for a while. Allegedly, the one he has will run 2 modded MJs for 10 hours

A Vortech w/battery back up will power one pump for 30 hours, and two pumps for 15 hours. That will be more than enough in an outage, but like sjames said also worry about your tank temp.
