Power outage

So after 24 hours of complete lack of power, I am now running my tank from my car battery. Only have my mp10, return pump and skimmer running for the time being. Nothing has died yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a return of power sometime within the coming days. How is everyone else holding up?

i dragged out the generator and used it to run my 120 and 20. so far so good, getting gas is a hassle, people are fighting over gas!!!

I saw the long lines snaking around parking lots last night, and that did not look fun at all. Oddly Enough, on my way to work at 6 AM, I was the only car filling up at the gas station!

Ive lost most of my fish. Got a generator running pump and power heads. Hope to save the last few survivors. Had to have massive outtage during this hot *** weather! Good luck to everyone

My biggest mistake in a power outage 10+ years ago was not stirring the sump and emptying the canisters. I remember a big storm 10+ years ago while I was in Memphis. I have a battery airstone for oxygenation. I manually stirred the tank for exchange. I floated bags of ice to keep temperatures cool. 4 days later, the power came back on and I remember jumping for joy. My tank survived!!

Then the next hour, the crash came. My canisters started re-flowing, my sump was going, but all that water got nasty then re-circulated into my main tank. Lost my prized purple tang, yellow long nose, corals melted. I have learned. Those without power, learn from my mistakes.

We just got power back on! im so glad i could get a generator I don't think i lost any thing. we just ordered battery back up for the MP40!

15 years in my house never lost power for more tha 2 hours before. I am still with out power and on well so no water either.

Good news was last summer I picked up a generator off craigslist. I had been putting it off for years but finally decided I had too much invested and if I never used the generator I could always get the money back out of the generator as it was basically new.

Everything seems to be doing fine but the tanks are getting a little warm as the basement is up to 80 degrees now. I just got a jumper put together that should allow me to run the AC and cool the house back down when I get home from work today.

Now I will never be without a generator again

Here is a list of when the company expects power to be restored, by county.

Wednesday night, July 4 – Buchanan and Russell counties

Thursday night, July 5 – Floyd, Smyth, Tazewell and Washington counties

Friday night, July 6 - Bland, Carroll, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski and Wythe counties

Saturday night, July 7 - Albermarle, Amherst, Bedford, Botetourt, Campbell, City of Lynchburg, Craig, Franklin, Henry, Nelson, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Roanoke counties and City of Roanoke

had power back for 2 hours this afternoon then a wicked storm hit and the lights went out.

came back on after a minute or two. had me screaming just got the generator stored away and all the power cords cleaned up

seems like this past storm will have everyone buying generators and planning for the worst. The next storm (fingers crossed) shouldn't cause all the panic.
