Power outage

Hey everyone! I know a few of you had some power outages during the big summer storm. Any advice on what to do if a power outage hits me. Sounds like this storm is going to get nasty. I would like to make sure i am prepared for the storm.

you could buy a battery back up..or generator...

This is the best option.

I bought one of those 12v power inverters for you car... ran a long extension cord from my car (in the garage) to my tank so I could run a couple of small pumps and the heater. It's cheap and worked in a pinch, but is far from the best option.

I eventually went with a back-up generator. I lose power all the time where I live, so while it's nice to not have to worry about the tank, being able to flush the toilets is pretty damn nice too. Especially with kids.

Thanks for advice guys! I dont have the money to buy a generator right now and im sure locally they will sell out fast with this storm. I do have a car inverter which i never thought about to run a few pumps on and off to keep things moving. I am in an area that gennerally gets power back fairly quickly. But to make sure i think sunday i do my normal water change and mix up another 5-10 gal as backup incase i need to drop in some fresh water. I have been looking at a backup generator though right after the elmira tornado event.

what is anyone else doing? in terms of the car inverter, do you have to keep restarting your car, or you just leave it idleing

thanks guys for the advice! I plan on running the inverter periodicly and hope for the best. I have new salt water mixing that i made this morning just incase to ill have some to replentish with new stuff. Keep our fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone.

I just left my car running in park when I did it. Had to open the garage door to let the exhaust fumes out, but other than that it was pretty straight forward.

I don't think they meant add lettuce. You might have misunderstood. When power goes out the phrase is LET US PRAY ...not lettuce spray
