Power outage

So the power just went out at my house and I freaked out. I was running around the house jumping up and down in a panic haha. It was very helpful"¦ It only lasted about a minute or two before coming back on. I checked everything and all was normal with my system. My diy over the rim siphon overflows even maintained their siphon, which I have tested successfully several times but never seen them work for reelzies. I have had a Vortech battery backup still in the box for about 4 months or so"¦ just hooked that bad boy up in a hurry.

Anyway, I was just curious what other precautions people have in order to be prepared for power outages. I know maintaing flow is important for dissolved oxygen and such but what else do you all think is important to monitor or maintain in these situations? Has anyone survived/suffered through a longer power outage? Hours? Days? Had any loss?

Turns out the battery backup comes charged in the box. The power has gone out 2 more times in the last hour for about 55 seconds each time. The backup does as advertised and keeps the pumps going at a lower speed.

i had a power outage for about 24 hours several years back. I ran the powerheads off an inverter linked to my car overnight and then bought a generator for the next 10 hours or so. I did lose some fish, I believe to overheating. The house got to over 100 degrees and the tanks were in the nineties. Not sure what to do about that excepting a whole house generator or portable AC unit.

The power used to go out down here whenever a cloud would appear in the sky. I bought a couple of UPS units and they've been able to keep the pumps going for several hours. The bigger the unit, the longer it will last.
