Went over to ACE and got a cheep $4 plastic power strip
So the question is
What do you guys yous for power strips do I need to spend alot of $$ for a good one or is the one I got fine ?
I have pluged into it

ditch the strip and build one with real outlets and a GFCI.

i just hastily added one last week -had an overflow- started a fire-all for a quick fix to add a new skimmer at the last minute.

do a search for power strips and fires...you'll see the numbers....

I really dont like the power strips and especially the cheap ones. Luckily I was home when my sons decided to go up in flames. His was caused by a internal short from what we could figure and had NO water in play. Only had 2 CF lights on his AP24 plugged in it at the time. We did buy another one but it was of much better quality with a better circuit breaker on it. We also rewired his room to add a GFCI breaker to the first plug in the circuit in his room to cover them all Best one to get would be the one with a built in ground fault breaker on it if you need one.

Here is what his old one did...

yikes! Glad nobody got hurt. It definitely pays to add a GFCI somewhere in your circuit to hopefully prevent things like that from spreading.

Everyone that uses them needs to do themselves a favor and open one up. Take a look inside. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason. And just because a "better" one has a fancy case and may cost 15 bucks, doesn't mean it is much better inside. These things are crap. For a temporary tap away from water, maybe, but for a permanent solution, no friggin way. They are built like crap and it's no wonder there are so many reports of the things melting or catching on fire for no reason. If you know how to wire at all, buy some comercial grade duplex outlets, plastic double gang boxes, waterproof covers, wire, plugs, etc. and build your own. Safer, better and worth the extra money which is a drop in the bucket vs. a power strip fire.
