Tommorow my power will have to be out for up to 6 hours. It's a 125 tank with 6 fish in it, 1 large 5 small. It's a young tank only just over 2 months old. All the fish are healthy that the water is relatively low nutrients. I will be running 3 battery operated airstones for oxygen and I'm leaving the lights on extra late tonite in hopes they will be tired tommorow and just get some sleep while everythings off.

Does anyone see any problems or do you think my fish will be ok?

You should not have a problem unless there is a major temp spike. If it were me, I would not leave the lights on any longer than usual. Just think, there are very, very, cloudy days that in the wild they would be just about in the dark. Unless I had bad info, keeping them in the dark lowers stress (lfs philosophy).
3 airstones seems a little on the light side to me for a 125.

I actually have 4, 1 is for the other tank which doesn't have fish, but snails crabs and pods. And I wanted to get air in there too. But I could switch it out putting 4 on the 125 every now and then. .

I have also read that you could take the airstone off of the end and let it genrate larger bubles in the tank for more surface agitation.

I would use the airstones. You will bet plenty of surface movement, and in addition, more surface to air contact with lots of little bubbles rather than fewer larger bubbles. JMO

It all depends on the sizes of your fish. Smaller fish will not use much oxygen and it wont be a problem. I had a 20 long before my big tank. with two little fish, they could go almost eight hours without any air or circulation before one of them would show signs of stress. but with the bigger tank and much larger fish im good for probably about 1.5 to 2 hours before starting to stress them out.

Thanks everyone, it's all done and the power is now back on. All fish are just fine.

What I did was leave the lights on until 3-4 a.m. and the work was started at 10:30 a.m. and power was back on by 3. So only about 4 hours or so. The blue tang was actually still sleeping in his rock, infact most of the fish were either sleeping or in "rest mode" from what I can tell, because the lights were never "turned on" in the morning.

dude help me, my tank is in Oak Park and mypower is going to be off on the 14th (i think, i need to look)...i only have a 20L but dont know what to do. What should i get, can i buy/borrow one off you?
will tak your advice, your system is WAY larger than mine

thanks!

just buy battery operated air pumps for $16.99 each from most petlands. They are called "Elite". . You might want to buy a seperate airline tubing though since the one that comes in the box is very small. .

many places that sell fishing tackle also sell the battery operated air pumps and IIRC the price was much cheaper than $17.. I am thinking that I saw them at farm and fleet for $7
