what do people use for guards on ther powerheads so anenomes dont get chopped up? i use the maxijet sureflow mods and they have some pretty strong suction.
Well, I can try to make one. Just give me the specs of the whole thing, as in "the skinniest part, behind the intake, is XX inches in diameter, and the middle of the powerhead (between the intake and output) is XX inches". Also, how long would you like it? What color(s) would you like? Email me a picture of where each of the powerheads are, riceaustin@gmail.com. Thanks for being interested!
The reason of why I don't post a picture is because I am afraid that people will steal my idea and sell them, saying that they were the original inventor. If it is alright with you, may I email you pictures of what it looks like and how I make it? But only if you don't share the idea with anybody. Okay?
This guard has been checked for effectiveness a couple of times by my Green Bulb tip. It has since settled down. The gaurd is quite large, but it distributes the vacuum enough that the anemone is just held in place, but not damaged by the mj mod'ed power head. Dimensions are approx 4" square by 2" thick
Actually, I changed my mind. I will just give you intructions on how to make them, because I like helping people. So just e-mail me when you are ready for the instructions, and we will go from there. They have proven themselves worthy of staying in my tank, so I will pass on the info. So if you still want to try them out, just email me: riceaustin@gmail.com
Those are very nice, reefrookie, but what did you use to keep the parts together? If silicon, what brand and kind, and if you can, model number. You might have used the wrong stuff.
Titus,
thanks for the kudos's. As you can see from the pics the gaurd was made from acrylic. Silicone does not adhere well to acylic, so i used weld-on 3 (Acrylic Cement) to join all the parts, whith the exception of the screens. To hold the screens in place i used Dap 100% silicone which is FDA food contact approved.
I intend to make another version of this gaurd out of black acrylic.
This was just a prototype.
Thanks for the props I am not really set up to start selling them. But let me think about it. One of the issues i would face is the vast number of Maxi-stream mods out there. This shroud is made to friction fits over the front of the maxi-stream shroud. When I first began using this gaurd i was using a double layer of the screen material. One wrapped around the maxi mod shroud and the second mounted in my diy shroud. I noticed significant flow reduction. I was being very cautious after the near loss of my green bulb tip. But i soon realized that my shroud would work well with out the inner screen, so i removed it. The flow returned to the flow i was used to!! short answer this mod minimally effects the flow.
I would have to come up with a different mount for all the variables.
let me know what kind of mod kit you have and i will think it over
Take care,
Adam
P.S. if you like this check out my red house for a simple kalk reactor design. There is a video to show you how well it works.
