powerhead question

I heard it is bad if powerheads suck things up from the bottom... How should I prevent this and clean out whatever got sucked in?

What type of powerhead?

All of the powerheads i've encountered can be dismantled easily. I would open it up and clean out the (sand, debris presumably?).

You can prevent the powerhead from sucking up things from the bottom of your tank by raising the power head. Depending on what's being sucked up, you may damage the impeller...

aquaclear powerheads.... they seem to be working fine just noticed theyd suck up smal pieces of food and such... and yes they can be dismantled easy.....

also is how do you tell if your powerheads are too strong for your fish?
