Powerhead recommendation

Hello,

I will be running a 72x30x30 peinsula tank. I was planning on primarily pointing powerheads from the overflow side of the tank. Would that work somehow? Do I have to have powerheads pointing from the otherside as well? I would prefer not to have powerheads everywhere. With that said, how essential is getting a controllable PH like a 6105, versus just getting a 6085 or even a 6125?

The ideal would be a 6105 or 6205 on each side, the flow will be to weak on the far side otherwise. The controllable pumps are generally preferred, they give you a lot more options and if you haven't noticed the exchange rate improved and the prices have come down quite a bit.
 
With a 7095 controller, what's the best mode for this set up? My tank is also peinsula and I have set it up exactly as thirst (2 6105 pointing from right to left) except my tank is 4'. It's kicking the sand on the other side. Is there a particular setting you recommend which would be enough for SPS but won't to too strong to kicking sands around. I have dial down the 6105 to about 60% but it's still too much. Thx!
 
I would change the jumpers on the power supply to 12V, this is the most important change to make for a 4ft tank. The jumpers were in the white boxes the power supplies came in, they are in small baggies. I think once you change this the problem will be solved but I would recommend using Interval 2 and using a pulse from 30%-100% with a 6hr interval.
 
What would this do? Make the powerhead less powerful or make the output wider and more gentle? Would this decrease the overall flow of my tank?

It will decrease the overall flow, but you don't need two 3400gph pumps running in a 4ft tank, 12V will reduce 100% power to around 2100gph and give you the full range of 30-100%. Right now you are getting about the same flow at 60% and 18V, this just will let you make finer adjustments at the lower flow end and have a wider pulse for more turbulence. With Interval 2 one pump will be at 30% while the other pulses from 30%-100% or whatever you set, this should be plenty of flow.
 
Do you think if I switch to use 6205.130, it will widen the flow enough that I don't need to switch to 12V?
 
The jumper is free, you should already have them. The 6205.13 is about $40 per pump, I don't think it is necessary. The only reason to get the 6205.130 in general is if you have a very wide tank.
 
Yes I am going to try the jumper regardless. My tank is only 3'. Do you think the 6205.13 would make any significant difference?
 
In this case it might be a good idea, a 6105 with 6205.130 has a roughly 4.5 by 3ft flow pattern at 18V.
 
OK. I am just going to try the 6205.130 before doing a 12V then. I figure if it's $40, it's worth a try. How I order that from you? Can you PM for detail?

I don't suppose I can return it if it turn out doesn't work? :)
 
No, we can't take a return on it if it is used. I am out of stock on this part until Friday. I would just order it on Tunze.com.

Agree on the return part. No worry. I don't think I am being reasonable as well asking you to take back used parts. :)

I was looking at the photo of 6205.130 in tunze.com and I couldn't tell how it's different from the standard face from my 6105. How is changing the face gives a wider flow? Or is the picture in tunze.com is just a generic one?
 
I have a similar setup...on a 90g peninsula with two 6105's on the right short end. I just received the 6205 face and put it on one of the powerheads. Like Roger said, it's a subtle difference in look but there is a notable difference in flow. The flow is much more disperse, and there seems to be a greater undertow. I replaced the chip on the stock 6105 with the 12v earlier today, big difference on a 4foot tank. I'm keeping the "modified" 6105 with the larger voltage chip for now, but like Roger said it might be nice to get finer control with the smaller one.
 
Your 90g is 4'? So you make the 6205 switch over and it's still not enough to keep the flow not kicking the sand that you *have* to switch over to a 12v? Or did you do the 6205 and it's good enough for a 4' tank?
