powerhead recommendations for..

You may be using too fine of a sand. I like a smaller crushed coral because I can have lots of flow and no moving sand.

Building a 93g cube for sps only .30x30 currently using tune 6105's at 50% and I still get sand swirl, recommendations?

I wish I had positive comments here but my 45 cube has the same problem. Right now for the tanks cycle I am running two mj1200 sureflow pumps on the back left and right about 4" down in the tank and have them pointed up at the surface and intersecting one another. This blows my special grade sand away from the the front center of the tankstill. I have tried a few different positions but each way still blows sand...once I transfer my livestock in I will be adding my mp10 and removing one of the mjs. I feel that even more sand will be blown then. A cube is really hard to perfect flow in with substrate. I wish I could handle looking at a barebottom tank. If you figure something out please post it in my build thread so I can try it. If I figure something out, ill post it as well.

Good luck.

WOW 2 MJ1200 sureflows on a 45g. That is a ton of flow, you could go BB with that flow. Try using the black impeller instead of the white one, that will cut the flow down some.

I guess im not sure that is the right name for them. I am using the new mjs that come with the propellar and grill. I think it says 1300ish gph each. It really isnt a ton of flow...

Tunze pumps have a strong stream that will travel a very long distance. In a 30" long tank they are going to hit the opposite side of the tank with ease. I would think Vortechs would be a much better option. The flow output is super wide and then theres the amazing undertow.

FWIW I have owned both and like both equally.

What type of sand are you running? I used to try sugar sand but kept having the same problem you did. I switched to something a bit courser and moved my tunzes a bit and now it barely moves.

If it were my choice I would probably do the 2 10's. Both the 10's and the 40 will be able to reach the opposite side of the tank. The 40 will cover the width better by itself but the two 10's on the same side would do it more evenly. The 2 10's on oposing sides will create a nice back and forth with some chaos created in the mix wash.

They will make a cone of outflow and everthing behind the cone gets drawn in by the undertow. Placing them on the same wall would be my choice too. I would try them both in sync and in anti-sync in all modes and see what works best for your tank.

I am having the same problem on my 90g. I have 2 koralia 3's and I put one towards the back facing foward and it blew all m sand towards the middle. The left front side of my tank is no bare bottom and my right side looks like a dsb. >:(. Reading this Im now thinking about one mp40 or 2 mp10's. if i can find a way afford them.

I have a 30 x 30 cube and I use 2 x Sicce Voyager 3's. I have courser aragonite and not sugar sand, but at least I can change the flow pattern on the Sicce's if it blows my substrate a little, it doesn't though.
