Powerhead Vs. SCWD question

Hey everyone, I'm making my 29 gallon nano reef tank. I was originally going to build a SCWD wavemaker system for it, but im reconsidering using a couple powerheads instead.

I wanted to get some opinions. I have limited space for all the plumbing for a SCWD with all the lines running for an external overflow and BeanAnimal sytem and return plumbing...

I just got a 690 GPH return pump for my sump, should do about 400-450ish GPH with head loss. How much additional flow will i need from powerheads? Which powerheads are suggested?

I was looking at the Hydor Koralia Nano and thinking of getting 2 of those. They are 240 GPH each. Would that be sufficient? Or too much? Not enough? Lol lots of questions!

Thanks!

The second method will be a lot less work overall. 2 nanos won't be nearly enough flow though. They're pretty weak. I'd suggest 2x K2's if you're going to stick with Koralias

Im not married into koralias. I really just like that they are easily adjustable and pretty small. I'm always open to other suggestions as well!

Thanks for the reply =)

I would do a powerhead. Much less maintenance. The SCWD has to be taken off every so often and cleaned. The power heads you should too but they are much easier to do so. I would say if you are doing koralias do a couple #2 or #3. The nanos aren't really much smaller and definelty don't put out enough for that size of tank.

Much appreciated. Looks like ill be doing 2 koralia 2's then. Next step will be to go to home depot (or lowes) and play around in the plumbing dept till i have everything i need for a Bean Animal overflow system. Looking to do external box.

Then once that's in, and return plumbing... Just gotta wait for the budget to get me the Koralia 2 powerheads and the glass for the overflows and what not and i think it will be ready to cycle!

Lighting is on the way! Super stoked!
