What are the powerheads that attach outside of the tank and have the magnet so the "fan" is inside called. And what is a good/cheap one for my 120?

You could try the Koralia pump. It has a magnet to hold it to the tank and uses a prop for flow....they are not too expensive.

ok now what size 1,2,3,4 for my 120 I want to get a minimum of 2 one from each side and maybe 3 one from the back.

I use 2 k-4's in my 90g. If your 120 is a 4ft tank it will be plenty. If it's a 6ft tank i would get 3 of them. The k-4's move quite a bit of water.

Thanks Dugg do you find it helps at all with hair algae. I'm get some growth on my LR. I am in the process of getting new bulbs and just replaced all the filters in my RO, but I'm hoping better flow will help too!

+1, that's why I was asking. Depending on how your rock work is set up, you may need to get a third smaller PW to sweep a dead area.

I don't get algae in my tank, but i do water changes EVERY week. I do have a ton of flow in my tank, but i don't have algae issues in my other tank either and it has no powerheads at all, so i really can't say the flow in my main tank is what keep it algae free. I think it's more about keeping up with water changes and growing lots of cheato in the sump under 24/7 lighting. I change 15% per week with 0 TDS water.

+1 once again:D

I don't have a fuge but I am over skimming. Keeping up with everything and putting in the time is the "secret" to success.
