i have a 6 year old 55 gallon (bowfront) mixed reef with LPS and soft coral. 1 yellow tang, 1 tomato clown, 1 pajama cardinal.
i recently installed two sure flow 1600's (basically they are maxi-jet 1200s with upgraded fans) in my tank. each of them are said to have an output of 2000 gph.
i am running a 2 gallon sump (completely empty) w/ about 50 lbs live rock.
the current generated by the powerheads are aimed at the glass (to make it more indirect to the corals).
i didn't realize how powerful these things are, however i haven't seen any negative effects on the coral and fish (yet). i assumed this would be a nice addition since i have no filtering media (except for my skimmer). also because i want to add an SPS coral to the tank.
so is this too much for a 55 gallon reef?
