Powerheads-Can someone help a newby out

I have a 180 setup (72 x 24 x 24) and am running 4 Koralia 1400's. Tunze and vortech not an option at this time. It is intended to be a reef (fish dominated) tank at some point but right now limited fish (no coral) until the tank becomes more established. My question is do the 1400's pattern flow work for 24" wide tank? I feel like I have a lot of movement but not comfortable with the suspension within the water column? Any advice? Add powerheads, go with bigger (uglier) magnum's?

With 4 1400s that is 31Xs the volume of your DT so that is not bad IMO, especially for a FOWLR. You happen to have pictures so we can see aquascape and placement of powerheads?

Doing a tank cleaning so ignore the powerhead on face of the tank. Would appreciate feedback. Are the 1400's strong enough to push flow across 24" width?

Yes they are strong enough, but if you doubt it, look into maxi-mods. The impellers fit into the korallia perfectly and make a lot of flow. I don't know if there has ever been published flow rates for doing this but buy one mod and put it in and feel the difference in flow between stock and modded. It is a huge difference. Much cheaper than going up to magnums and still get to keep the smaller pumps.

What makes you think you don't have enough flow? Tank seems prestine and low flow tanks I've seen lots of problems with detritus build up and cyano building up in really low flow areas...

Thanks for the mod tip. Did not know mods were available. The reason I question my flow is I have a lot of flakes at top of water column that will not go away. Just don't seem to push back to the o'flow. During my cleaning I blasted the rock and blew out a significant chunk of flakes.

I would try turning a powerhead to hit the water surface. This will add turbulence on the top causing the top to mix back in. If you can shoot the powerhead at the overflow that would push water in the box and possibly solve your problem!
