Powerheads ... do you use them?

I am asking becuase it seems like alot of you use tunzes and seios in anemone tanks. Do you take any precuations? Or are these two types of powerheads anemone safe?

I have only used MJs, but every tank that I have had a powerhead with an anemone has resulted in an incedent: either the anemone getting injured or me having to move the PH. The tank that I am putting together now won't have PHs, heaters, or CL intakes. Am i being over precuatious?

yes , i've kept s. haddoni , h. crispa and bta's using hagen quick filter cages affixed to hagen powerheads . the haddoni and bta had found their way directly onto it without getting stuck or sucked in . my crispa's never wandered so i cant comment on them . i currently only have a h. crispa and am also using a stock seio and may add a hydor korilla and poss. a vortex however i wouldn't leave them on when i'm away for an extended time .

Anytime You use a power head in a tank with an anemone and the power head is not covered you are gambling with your anemone. a few of the bottom dwelling anemones can be an exception, but even sometime these can climb a wall or a power head can be knocked to the bottom of the tank.

true , and i do things to minimize risk . i build plexi holders for all devices in the tank so that they cannot be moved . and well i've not altered the small seio 620's intakes , i would construct a cage to surround a vortec if i get one (not sure i will yet), because of how powerful they can be . i haven't thought about the hydor i'll need to get one first . i'm curious to see if i can construct a mount for it because i don't care for the magnets , then i'll think about a cage .
there are stories here of anemones getting sucked into tunze's and sieo's which have had needle point mesh covering the intakes .
if you have small bta's go with the hagen quick filter and take it one step further by putting a roll of plastic needle point mesh or rain gutter guard in it instead of the filter cartridge (less maintenance) .

Bta's are the worst... if you have a power head in the tank they will find it eventually and usually when your are not home... They also like over flows... I have had several bta's go through an overflow as well as several of my friends..
