Powerheads for 75 sps

Powerheads for 75 sps

I'd get the big ones personally. In my 4' 75 gal I have

Mp40we
Mp10wes
Gyre 150.

The gyre and mp40 do the lions share of the work whereas the mp10 is simply for some randomized chaotic flow.

If you're good about cleaning your pumps then the gyres are great, otherwise stick with the vortechs. My mp40 has been in nonstop service since 2008

I wouldn't but If budget is a concern... Then get one of the big pumps and then get a suitable but cheaper jabeo power head for the other until funds have recovered enough to buy something more rugged.

Sps like flow. Don't cheat them on that as you will pay the price.

Do you think anything under that amount would work. For some reason i hate mix and match. I would rather have 2 of the same or something.

If your budget is 500 Max, then 2 Tunze 6105 would fit perfectly in that budget. Wait for them to go on sale.. this friday or July 4ths. 2 x Tunze 6095 might be better since they are a bit smaller.

I'm sure there's more than a few people that'll tell you what you proposed is fine. And really, only one way to find out.

I will say that in my experience, with my tank, livestock and coral, rocks, etc that the mp40 and large gyre left something to be desired, so I went for the mp10.

Honestly, I plan on ditching the gyre and getting another mp40 to replace it. They're just less fussy to maintain. The gyre without monthly attention loses about 25% flow over time. It's maddening.

Just for arguments sake, my sps mentor who is a VERY well regarded sps only vendor recommended I get 2 large gyres and a MP40 for sporadic flow on the back wall LOL. So if you think what I'm using is overkill...hahaha

Iv been running two rw8's on a 75 for around a year now...not sure how they will do long term, but for under 200 dollars I think that they were worth it.
