Powerheads -- On all the time or On/Off cycles?

I've been using a controller to alternate my powerheads, but lately I've had to make a cover for mine to keep a small bicolor blenny from sitting in them during their off cycle. Should I just deal with cleaning the cover till he gets big enough or run them on a continuous basis to keep him out?

I've never run my powerheads on a cycle for this reason. My tank seems to do good with constant flow, but varying flow is often argued as more beneficial for best coral health and growth. Just depends on if you think it's worth cleaning frequently or not. I try to limit my maintenance so I'd personally just run the pump 100% of the time.

That is something for you to decide my fellow reefer. If you are worried about losing your fish to a power head keep the cover on and clean the cover every now and then.
