Powerheads?

im in the middle of still setting up my 125 reef tank and was wondering what would be the best kind of powerheads to go with. besides TUNZE. something a lil bit cheaper. thanks

For a non-tunze powerhead, you could look at Seios. My 1500's are still pumping strong after 14 months of constant use. You could also look into the maxijet mods and the new Hydor Koralias.

how much do the 1500's cost and do u know whats the gal/hr is on them? also how much should i use?

The 1500's are rated at just that, 1500 gph. I know they're priced at Premium Aquatics at $70 apiece. For a reef tank, I'd advise at least 30x volume of flow, and even more if you can get it. So figure up your return pump and whatever other powerheads/pumps you have going or want to have going and figure out the math. In my 120, I have two of the 1500's, a mag 12 return, and 2 MJ 900's and I really need to increase my flow over that. HTH

So let me get this correct shooter, You already have 4800gph of flow in your tank now and 30x120gallons=3600.00. This is not taking your return pump into the question. How much more would you add? Are you going for the sunami effect in there? LOL

Actually, there is only 3460gph with the two 1500's and the two MJ 900's (230gph x 2) in the tank, then add on probably around 900 or so gph with the return. When you look at the tank, you can see there is flow from the motion of the LPS, GSP, anemones, etc, but there is still some stuff that makes it down to the sand and kind of hangs out there. I'd like to keep it moving a bit better than that. It's really not that much when you see it.
