PPE and RPE

As my last post in here says i just got my first zoas. My guestion is what do these two abbreviations mean? PPE and RPE.

They are actually just nicknames given to certain zoanthid color strains. This website has become a good source for names. www.zoaid.com

The Purple People Eater (PPE), is known for its green skirt, purple disk and green mouth.

Red People Eater (RPE), are known for their Red skirt, red disk and green mouths. There are a lot of variations of this color pattern that may or may not be the true RPE.

just as a clarification, zoaID is not correct with their pictures in the RPE and OPE categories.

there is a picture of a PRPE (purple and red people eater) in the RPE category.

PRPE, RPE, and PPE are completely different. PRPE is completely purple just like the PPE, except has a red/orange skirt.

not green centers, it has to be a distinctive green slit mouth

also, when the polyps are closed there should be white streaks going up and down the polyp

PE's are a completely different species than regular zoas.

I think the green ones are one stage of the Green Stardust. Some Green Stardust turn into Desert Foxes, and some don't...

RPE's should be nowhere near 40 per polyp... in fact, PPE's shouldnt be either but with their popularity exploding in the past year they are....

RPE's can be had for well under 10 per polyp, closer to the 4-6 range for nice ones...

probably not the same variation as EK posted, as that variation is absolutely stellar!!! and in my opinion blows out the PPE's (which i think are way over rated)

Thank you all for the great comments.IM planing on fragging this piece a little so i can seperate the greens from the rest.Im worried if i dont the greens will get overun.Zoas small and big have always been some of my favorite creatures in my reef. Not only are they a great for trading but they also seem to make reefs pop with color.I working on making my 55g freshwater tank a zoa tank sometime this weekend.The 58g is getting to crowded with everything else I have.Ill try and keep you all posted on the new project.
