Prazi in DT

Hi All!

The only fish I have in my DT right now is a purple pseudochromis, eek. QT'd for 4 weeks, no meds at the time, hypo to battle ich in QT and has been clear since. No signs of spots or ich on him at all. This was approx. 6 weeks ago he left QT and into the DT.

Today, I noticed the fish was rubbing his gill covers against my heater, somewhat frequently. Right now, in QT, I have an occelaris clown, so I can't move the pseudo to the QT. The only other animals is the DT are 4 hermits, 4 nass. snails, and one turbo snail. No corals etc.

So in QT I've been dosing Prazi as a prophylactic, clown is eating well, very active, has taken to a clay pot, looks like a nice, healthy fish.

I'm thinking, just in case, it might be a good idea to dose Prazi in the DT, incase the Pseudo is sick and because I didn't do it previously? This way, when the clown gets there, everybody will have had a round or two of Prazi? Does this make sense? Carbon will be removed. I have the skimmer piped from outside air to keep the Ph up, so I will set the collection up at the highest possible to allow skimmer to remain on.

The Praziquantel will lower the oxygenation of the tank (the solvent used will most likely do it to be exact) and you might lose some worms or small echinoderms and upset the system (but since it's new there is not much livestock that might be affected anyway).

Some people used Praziquantel successfully in their display tanks, so if you want, you can use it.

My FOWLR is currently on 2nd dose of prazi pro due to internal parasites. Although, the symptoms have not totally cleared but no ill effect has been witnessed on any fish. Just keep good surface agitation to keep the water well oxygenated.

I may be wrong, but I heard this medication could kill snails and other inverts. Be careful

I've used Prazi in both my new 30gal (X3) and in my old 210 system with no lasting ill effects. I have hermits, nassarius and cerith snails but no turbos, also have 3 shrimp and a porcelain crab with a mix of mainly LPS a few SPS and several softies as well. There are some organisms that cant tolerate Prazi but I can not recall what they are, I think it may be feather dusters or related types, not sure though. Some of my corals reacted poorly at the onset of treatment but quickly rebounded with no lasting problems.
You will need to remove your carbon for certain and likely take your skimmer off line as it will react violently to the med as well as reducing the effectiveness. Direct your return jet towards the surface to help with aeration. Dose according to instructions and do a follow up second treatment as well. I did not do a secondary treatment on my 30gal and had flukes return with a vengence thus having to do the treatment starting over again.

I have used PP several times as well in my DT over the years and only notice fan worms taking poorly to it

What would be indications that a fish has internal parasites?

I've heard of "white stringy poop" but nothing else.

I noticed my fish rubbing its gills on the heaters, so better safe than sorry.

Although, today, at feeding, only one of my 4 nass. snails came out to eat. Odd, but I think perhaps because I'm not running carbon, and the prazi smells like hell to begin with, it might be affecting their sensing food when it hits the water?

The fish looks great, and the hermits are ok. I can't find the turbo, but I don't see a new empty shell either. Just odd all 4 nass. snails didn't pop out.
