prazi side effects on fish?

Just wondering if prazi effect appetite? I did 4 weeks of cupramine in QT and everything ate great the whole time. I cleared out the cu and began prazi and they are eating but just now where as aggressive as before. During cu, I could barely get a pellet past my powder blue, now he just nibbles one here and there.

I also saw the pbt scratch today, which I have not seen at all since I had him. I also saw my yt and hippo scratch. I've seen no spots or blemishes on any of them. I also have 2 yellow wrasses that have scratched some. I'm wondering if this could be flukes? or the beginning of ich reinfestation?

I had no issue with keeping the cu at .5 for the whole 4 wk treatment.

I'm thinking at this point to go back to TTM and dose prazi at the same time throughout it. I'm not going to do another 4 wks of cupramine.

I wouldn't be concerned about the scratching just yet. Some symptoms could be leading to dying flukes. Decreased appetite is common with prozi.

+1 If the PBT had Ich at some point, continued scratching/twitching could just be a residual effect from whatever damage was done under the skin/in the gills. It usually subsides in time.

Sure, as safe as PP is, any med will have some effect on the fish. They are living, eating, and breathing in a solution with medication. Seems to me it must bother them is some way.

This is very good to hear, esp from 3 out the most regular posters here. The pbt never showed any signs of ich though. Today I fed heavy & everyone seemed to eat much better than yesterday. I also had about an hour to watch them today & I saw very little if any scratching. I did see the yellow wrasses scratch a couple times today.

Thanks again for the advice. Another question though, first prazi was monday. Should I dose again monday? Or hold off a little? & water change before next dose or no?

I will throw a twist on this... I have had some appetite loss of fish with prazi, but normally I think this is a gentle med.. To me copper is more aggressive the prazi. Did the fish have ich when you started to treat them with copper? Did you put the fish in a different tank after you cleared them of copper? If the fish were treated with copper because they were infested with ich , then after 4 weeks you took the copper out, if any parasite decided to hatch it would reinfect all of the fish. Yes, 4 weeks is enough to rid the fish of ich , but ich has been known to hatch even at the 8 week point. That's why they say wait 9 or 10 weeks to be sure. Copper only kills the parasite in the free swimming stage so the cyst that forms at the bottom of the tank isn't really botered by the copper. Only when it hatches is when the copper kills ich.

What I would have done, treated the fish with copper for 4 weeks then I would have moved them to a clean tank for observation. This would eliminate the chance of 1 ich parasite hatching late and reinfecting the fish.

So there is the twist, now if this is what happened. This could explain the flashing because the parasite is just attaching to the gills. Which would mean the white patches won't be showing up for a while. If it's ich it can be beat. I would just wait and see though. Every fish is different and maybe they are just reacting to the medicine.

Time will tell, don't be in a hurry.

Those are some valid points and I have often wondered why I haven't really seen that addressed about the occasional cyst that holds out longer than 4 weeks.

To answer your question I saw about 4 spots on my yellow tang when I first put him in. None on any of the other fish. Cu was started right away. So I'm hoping that there would have been very few cysts to begin with.

Today I observed no scratching besides the hippo who I saw scratch once. But I didn't have too much time to watch. Everyone certainly has their appetites back as well.

Tommorow I will do the water change and re dose the Prazi.
