Prazipro and Algaefix

Anyone know if both can be used at the same time? I just started Prazi today and would like to start Algaefix asap.

i would think that would not be good for your tank...

i've read numerous threads on here of people who've dosed algaefix and they're posting on here looking for help how to get their tank back from the brink of crashing.

i would think both at the same time would be tough on your tanks livestock.

most people dose prazi in a QT because it may kill your inverts

i am not an expert on either, but i wouldn't use algaefix. the algae is telling you something is wrong and chemicals are just a band-aid over an obvious nutrient source issue that can be corrected with a little time and effort to figure out the source (over-feeding? rodi water / filters? etc...)

prazipro, on the other hand, i've read that people have used it successfully.

anyone, please correct me if i am wrong in any way...

I have no experience with Algaefix, but I would be nervous about using that in tank -- so many corals rely on their internal algae for food.

As for Prazipro -- I have used it in a full reef tank with no issues -- including SPS, zoas, clams, S. Haddoni anemone, anemone crab, cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, snails and crabs. (( plus other stuff I am sure I am forgetting. ))

I used alge fix 1 time with no ill effects to my stock. Both at the same time...NO WAY !! You're asking for trouble in a big way.

As far as Algaefix being harmful, there's a very large thread about it somewhere around here. Seems a couple people had some snail problems but that was it.

Im having an outbreak of red dictyota that I want to take care of before it gets out of hand. A small piece came in on some rubble and its spreading pretty fast. AFAIK nutrients doesnt have much to do with dictyota and I hear it actually does better in cleaner water.

There was a huge thread on AlgaeFix Marine in the Reef Chemistry forum. I think most folks didn't have any adverse results, but it may or may not kill your pest, either, depending on the species.

The original thread was started by HighlandReefer, and was pretty long but had a lot of good info.

Edit to add: I've used AlgaeFix twice... the first time it worked against my hair algae, the second time it didn't touch it. AlgaeFix killed my Gulf of Mexico sponges right away, but I saw no other adverse effects.

I've also used Prazipro in my show tank, twice, for flukes. I saw no adverse effects on any of my critters.

I did NOT use both at the same time.

Just want to add, I'm also using prazi in a tank with snails and no issues so far. It's been 3 days so if it would've affected them, I'm sure it would've by now :)
