PraziPro Dip / Bath

Please share your dip/bathing procedure as prophylactic treatment on new fish arrivals. I have been talking with some people, and the dosage and time seems to really vary from person to person.

On some fish that I find to be wormy (like Jawfish) I will actually put them in a week's QT with PraziPro as the label describes, as I don't think a bath or dip is enough to get inside.

So...what do you do? What do you feel it helps to protect against?

I tried just FW baths and it seems to work for a day or so and then they come back. My theory here is that the adult stage cysts are being popped but the eggs are still there. I did a lot of research and found several people who dosed their DT's with prazi-pro that were full of coral and inverts with no ill effects. I did the same thing 2 days ago and it has all cleared up so far. No more twitching, shaking of the head, I can really tell a big difference in the color intensity of my fish as they say flukes can make their color spotty and blotchy. I almost just dipped them in it but figured it wasn't going to be enough so I medicated the tank...it's clear also so it doesn't stain the seals. I am running a canister filter right now because I was afraid it still might kill off some of my BB. All my inverts are fine though can't be happier now. This stuff really works!

Some species of flukes lay eggs, so you need to break the life cycle. this can require two praziquantel treatments, spaced ten days apart.

When I get any new anthia I QT them and treet with Prazi pro for a week. When I have not used this method it has always seem to go bad.

I bought this prazi-pro from a LFS after I couldn't find it anywhere within a 1 hour area they had the big 60 dollar bottle and sold me 4 oz. for 10 bucks which I thought was really cool of them. I was thinking of doing this first treatment for a week and then 3-5 days late as per the instructions doing it one more time as I've had this problem for a while now. I was just going to let nature take its course and after it did by killing my male occelaris I decided no more fish's lives in my tank could go to waste by just watching them die. I think I have encountered the strand that lays eggs because the FW dips would work for a day or two then they would come back. I was just getting the adult cysts and not the eggs.

Hey guys! Thanks for your replies, but they are a bit off-topic. I am asking about dips and baths, not week-long treatments in a QT. I am asking what dose do people use, for how long, and what do people believe they achieve by doing these dips/baths. I am just looking for some first-hand experiences using PraziPro as a dip or bath, and what the outcomes have been. There are quite a few fish out there that don't do well in a QT, and a dip or bath is about as good as you're going to get without killing the fish.

Fyi, dips are usually 20 mins or less, baths are often several hours.

Dips are highly overstated as an actual disease elimination method. They are rarely 100% effective at removing all adult flukes, don't kill eggs, and are useless if you put the fish back into the same tank.

The original paper on using praziquantel (Thoney) used baths, not dips. I don't have the original paper handy, but in my Advanced Marine Aquarium Techniques, I wrote that the bath dose is 5ppm for 3 hours. I also list 2ppm for 24 hours. It was later found that this long term treatment is the way to go with this drug.

The ONLY thing I use dips for anymore is as a diagnostic tool.
