I just dosed prazi. When should I do WC? When should I start the second dosage? Does Prazi stay in the water? Some people say that it dissipates after 72 hrs. Please share how you use Prazi.

Thanks!

I treat all new fish with Prazi in QT either during or after TT.

With fish that are eating well during TT I treat them during transfers 2 and 4. No water change needed because you are transferring every 3 days anyways.

If I wait until in QT, I usually dose Prazi on day 1 and then do a WC on day 5 and redose on day 6. I believe there are some that don't bother with a WC but i prefer to do one because you are not running a skimmer during treatment and it helps avoid a build up for nutrients in the tank that could lead to an ammonia spike, especially if in a smaller QT. I prefer 3 treatments as opposed to the standard 2 so I dose on days 1, 6, and 11 and do WCs on days 5, 10, and 15 and after last WC I turn back on skimmer and add carbon.

Thanks for the input. Does Prazi usually get rid of all your flukes?

It will kill the flukes, but it will not kill the eggs. That's why it's recommended to do the second dose, possible even a 3rd.

Dose and wait at least 3 days (Hikari claims its basically useless after the 3 days) then do a water change and redose the PP before the 7 day mark to get any of the eggs that hatched. A third treatment may be needed providing that somehow some of the adults were able to lay eggs during the second treatment. (PP,formalin and the likes do little to nothing of preventing eggs from hatching. Paraguard like you asked about in another thread will also work for flukes if dosed everyday for 14 days (per seachem customer service)

I have been reading large amount of research papers and asked several marine parasitologists about this issue. Now PZQ is out of my option nor would I be using it again. It's not an eradication method and some strains are very resistant to the concentration we apply to our aquariums. FW dipping / hypo are so far the best ones on the table but I'm using Paraguard first. It won't be 14 days because Paraguard does not kill adults with slime coat protection. It takes 28 - 30 days for existing adults to lose their ability to lay eggs and therefore the population become eradicated providing that no larvae gets to attach to the fish. Now I have 4 - 5X recommended concentration of PZQ in my tank and it did not work. I'm not going waste any more time on PZQ. Paraguard is the next to try and if I see new infection (meaning larvae wasn't killed) I will do either hypo or FW.
