Prazipro or Herbtana use in the reef tank

Ok well I did a 50% WC and started up charcoal yesterday which was day 7 of the Prazi treatment. So today my wrasse has 3 on his head, my clown male has 1 on either side of his tail right about the same place but whats weird is he has a white blotch around it, and the female clown did the head shake thing again a few times today. For the first 4 or 5 days looked like all was gone but now they're back :hammer:

The good thing is all fish ate like pigs during the treatment and are fat and happy! :D

Sooooooooooooo I guess I'm going to do another Prazi treatment on Thursday and let run for 7 days and see how things are from there. Or do you think I should just go ahead and do the Prazi treatment tomorrow instead of waiting for the 4th day since first treatment was removed? My tank has about 45-50 gallons of water taking out for rocks and sand so my treatment should be 2 1/2 tsp, I did 3 tsp on the first treatment. Should I up it to 4 or more? Even double the dose?

Come on, does anyone have an opinion on my post #41?

I wouldn't double the dose. Let things take their course, and the prazi will work. As you said, all your fish are fat and happy :)

However, you know my experience with these things, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

HTH.

Well the flukes that were visible on the wrasse were gone sometime during the day yesterday and the ones on the male Mocha were also gone as were the white patch around them that were on his tail. This morning I see a few still on the wrasse and the white patches are back on the Mocha males tail both sides and are in the same place each side of the tail, it's very strange and I've never seen anything like this before.

So today is day 4 after having removed the Prazi so I'll start the second treatment today. Hopefully this gets rid of them.

The only coral damage that happened was a torch had a polyp bailout on one of its heads but the other two aren't looking so hot. Very skinny in appearance and not much extension. My other torch is a gold Aussie torch and it looks amazing. My Elegance coral also really looked great yesterday after being frumpy from the Prazi treatment. Not sure that Prazi had anything to do with the torch but need to treat for my fish so today is treatment #2

Well I decided to wait until today to start my second round of Prazipro, and remove it next Wednesday. Hopefully this gets rid of the flukes.

I'm still wondering if the Prazi did in my green torch. It was doing amazing until I started the treatment and after I did the large WC it's bailed out almost half of it's tentacles. What's left are still very skinny with no extension but they're about a 1/2" maybe a tad longer. If I had to lose one I'm just glad it wasn't my Aussie Gold torch. My Gold Wall Hammer is doing well also.

After reading into that link a bit I found this

I talked to the lab tech at Hikari who mixes Prazipro. I explained the problem with the Prazipro not killing the flukes and he seems to think that I am dealing with 2 different kind of species. He gave the following dosing instructions:
Do a 20% water change. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon Prazipro for every 10 gallons. He said to gradually add it and watch the fish. Wait 5 days do a 20% water change. Dose 1 1/2 teaspoon Prazipro. Wait 5 days do a water change and observe fish.
He said this amount is still safe for the fish.

So it seems that I was correct in thinking I needed to double the dose that I used. So for this dose I put in 6 tsp for approximately 40-45 gals of actual water, instead of the 3 tsp that I used on the first dose of 1 tsp per 20 gals plus a bit because I used the 3 tsp.

I just found this link saying Prazi wasn't killing the flukes on the OP's fish. I've not read it yet but figured it should be added to this thread.

i have read/heard of prazi not working on all kinds of flukes. imo, fluke is a general term to describe many types of parasitic flatworms, so it would make sense it may not work on all types. i also read prazi does not actual kill flukes, it causes the flukes to spasm and fall off the fish. my understanding is reinfection is possible, hence the need for 2 or more treatments(besides the eggs). i have used prazi with great success, as a preventive and a cure. however, in qt, i also combine it with formalin baths, which is known to kill "flukes".

I do have Formalin on hand if I need to dip the fish. Just not looking forward to catching them if I need to do that. :(

Well here's an update: It seems that all of the flukes are gone :D Even the white spot on both sides of the male Mocha clown is going away. All of my corals are perking up very nicely today and the white lights still aren't on yet. So it seems that the proper dose for killing flukes, or at least the types that I had is to dose at 1.5 tsp per 10 gal of water volume. My fish have had the shatz BIGTIME especially the Cherub Angel. Man I didn't know fish could poop that much. Maybe that's why my corals are looking so good
