PraziPro

I dosed my DT with prazipro with recommend amount and turned off my protein skimmer and carbon/reactor. How long should I leave them off for? 5-7 days? Should I do a large water change after 5-7 days?

Thanks,

Here is info from the bottle :

A single treatment lasting 5-7 days is normally sufficient. Repeat as necessary, but no more than once every 3 to 5 days. May be used as a preventative, at the standard dosage, when disease is likely. Do not use with other drugs or disease treatments. May cause temporary foaming.

I did mine for 7 days and then did a 20% water change. Worked great. No harm to fish or corals.

did you dose every 7 days or just wait 7 days after dosing 1 time?

Might be a coincidence but my RBTA just fully closed and i noticed some wierd black strand hanging on him annoying him.. kinda looked like long strain of fish poo or something..I ended up turning my power heads up and it blew off idk what it was.. but he is fully closed now I hope he is okay.. my other BTA is fine..

Well my RBTA is opening out now so phew he is okay :) So I dosed it on tuesday - turned off my skimmer and reactor(carbon/gfo) will turn all that on next tuesday is that what you are recommending without dosing again? This is a preventive dose as I saw a new fish flash against the rocks a few times but don't see any spots on him so could be flukes hoping its nothing.. :(

Many times ich(which typically causes the flashing) is not visible to the eyes. Unfortunately just because we don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Did you quarantine by chance?

I know PraziPro will not kill ich i'm using it a preventive for parasites like flukes because fish will flash not just only for ICH they will flash for other parasites like flukes. Either way he seems fine just noticed a few flashes (maybe 3-5 total in the last 4-5 days)..i'm not super worried at this moment. My concern and original question is about dosing. I dosed 1 time on Tuesday should I wait 7 days 5 days? Do you guys usually dose twice? Or more than once within the 5-7 days? When should I be turning on my skimmer/reactors and how big of a water change 20%?

Thanks,

i typically dose twice during my QT process. I'll dose the tank, leave it in there for 5 days. Perform a 20% water change, wait a few more days and then dose again and perform another water change as before. In my mind, the water changes take place of the skimmer. If you are dosing your DT, i would recommend leaving the skimmer off as well to allow the meds to do their job. Just watch your feeding and make sure to do the water changes. After the second treatment and water change, I would kick on the skimmer. Also its my understanding that the meds dissipate in the water column after 7 days i believe so i WC isn't necessary but recommended.

Perfect thanks - I will wait till tuesday and do a 20% wc and turn on my skimmer. I dont' think I need to dose again like I said its just a preventive treatment and I will monitor the fish!

Yeah this happened to me, two weeks after I put my Royal Gramma in the DT from the QT he started flashing a lot and stopped eating. Thinking it was flukes I treated with prazi twice. After both treatments and no changes I moved him back to the QT and treated him with copper. He looked bad when I put him in the QT, I didn't think he was going to make it. A few days after I started the copper treatment it was like nothing had happened to him.
He showed no visible signs of ich when he was in the DT, but it must have been on his gills.
Now, a few weeks after the prazi I'm still dealing with an overflowing skimmer...ughhhhh!!!
